Intrapreneurs, How to Unleash your Full Potential?

In: CIEL Group | April 2017

1. “What we fear of doing most is usually what we most need to do” Ralph Waldo Emerson

For eons, humans have been known as “creatures of habit”. Let’s be honest: we love the way things are established, the routine and conformity in which things are settled. But acting so, we miss opportunities. It has become a must to challenge the “We’ve always done it that way mentality.”

Common thinking

Change is risky”, “Unknown is frightening.”

How an intrapreneur thinks

“Let me suggest or apply new ways of doing things.”

How do we get there?

  •  Identify the key future strategic objectives
  • Analyse the situation with an open mind
  • Question the actual process and apply innovative mechanics in line with your goals
  • Always challenge yourself

2. “Set your goals high enough to inspire you and low enough to encourage you” Kensignton

It is very easy to stay focused on one’s prior goals. But doing so, we stagnate. Set higher yet achievable goals and strive for the best!

Common thinking

There are my objectives. I need to meet them.

How an intrapreneur thinks

Let’s be bold, go the extra mile and reach higher.

How do we get there?

  • Set ambitious yet achievable goals for yourself and your job
  • Break down your goal into daily bites
  • Be audacious and yet down to earth to assess the feasibility of your projects

3. “A flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it. It just blooms” Zenkei Shibayama

Knowing what the colleagues and/or the competitors are doing is essential. However, focusing too long on it is a waste of time and energy you could have invested in learning, research, innovation and consolidation.

Common thinking

I would love to be like this employee but I am far from delivering such a good quality work.

How an intrapreneur thinks

I will give the best of myself and let everyone be surprised.

How do we get there?

  •  Don’t compare yourself to others but rather think about what you can bring to the table
  • Understand that you don’t have the same experience as the others
  • Focus on your training, your personal growth and acquiring new knowledges
  • Define your strengths, sharpen the aspects that make you different and build them up

4. “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” Wayne Gretzky

Believe in yourself and don’t be shy to try original and new things out. We must keep in mind that every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. You must not fear failures. Rather, you should be afraid not to try because you don’t give any chance to success.

Common thinking

This is too mad, it won’t work.

How an intrapreneur thinks

“It might sound crazy but why not?”

How do we get there?

  • Get inspired by everything: target market, inspirational speeches, success stories and the list goes on
  • Dare to make mistakes and learn from them: what went wrong, why and how?
  • Have faith in yourself, your capabilities, talent, specialties…
  • Trust your guts and make it happen
